JOHOR BAHRU, 20 March –  Two Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students, Chin Chia Yuan and Pung Ye Tim from team Nescafe UTM had emerged as the Champion of Unipreneurship Development Grant Programme (UDGP) 2021.

Following UTM in the second place (First Runner Up) was team from Taylor’s University and third place (Second Runner Up) went to team from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

In this programme, 10 different business teams from public and private universities namely Taylor’s University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR), Multimedia University (MMU), MARA University of Technology (UiTM), Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) and UTM were sucessfully shortlisted to contest in the final round out from 27 submissions.

Chin Chia Yuan who led the UTM team to victory said that during the Grand Finale round, each participant was required to make a presentation about their current business activities.

“Each business team must present their respective pitch deck and was evaluated based on the business model, business investability, improvement capacity, people’s choice and presentation skill.

“Nescafe UTM stood out to be one of the judges’ favourites. To make the whole thing worth celebrating, Nescafe UTM was the only team who made it to the final and received the award,” said Chin Chia.

The UDGP finale session evaluation team consisted of an industry-driven panels including the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Max Capital Management Holding Bhd, Adj. Prof. Ts. Maxshankar, General Partner of CoMetro Capital, Adj. Prof. Chris Wong, Head of Unovate Centre of UTAR, Dr Lee Sheng Chyan, CEO of MCM eCom Global Venture, Mr Dan Then and CEO of ulearnMONEY.com, Ms Amy Seok.

Nescafe UTM is a student-based entrepreneurial Food and Beverages (F&B) business fully run by students and receives guidance from the UTM Centre for Student Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (UTM XCITE) and supported by Nestle Malaysia. Chin Chia Yuan is currently continuing his study in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at the UTM Centre of Engineering Education (CEE) and Pung Ye Tim, a final year undergraduate student at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science of UTM.

Chin Chia Yuan who led the UTM team to victory is Nescafe UTM Director and currently doing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at UTM Centre of Engineering Education (CEE).
