UTM’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Signed LOC with IQIP Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Enhancing Industry Involvement in Academic and Talent Development

JOHOR BAHRU, 6 DECEMBER – A Letter of Collaboration (LoC) A collaboration agreement was signed on December 6th, 2023, between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and IQIP Malaysia Sdn Bhd (IQIP) to promote industry involvement in academic and talent development at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

IQIP is a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for offshore structure installation projects, including renewable energy, decommissioning of offshore structures, and oil and gas. Currently, IQIP is actively involved in installing monopiles for wind farms worldwide, highlighting their commitment to pioneering large-scale projects globally. IQIP is looking for individuals with a forward-thinking mindset who are ready to contribute to the next wave of innovation.

The collaboration between UTM and IQIP began after IQIP participated in a career fair at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM Johor Bahru, on June 13-14, 2023. Following this initial engagement, a series of productive meetings took place, ultimately leading to a significant milestone: signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on October 19, 2023.

During the ceremony, UTM was represented by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, while IQIP was represented by Mr Abdul Halim Sideek Abu Bakar, General Manager. The collaboration between UTM and IQIP covers academic partnership and cooperation, including academic program development (dyna:Mech@UTM), exchange of expertise and resources, talent development, and educational activities.

Before signing the ceremony, Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini stated that the LOC would mark the beginning of an exciting journey towards fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. He emphasized the importance of connecting academia and industry to create a dynamic learning environment for students.

“By combining UTM’s academic expertise with the industry insights and support of IQIP Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., we aim to equip our students with real-world skills and experiences, enabling them to become high-quality, future-oriented talents,” said Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini. “This collaboration represents the start of a transformative phase where theory meets practice, preparing our graduates to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of technology and engineering.”

The Dean is optimistic about the partnership’s success, seeing it as a foundation for future growth. There is hope to strengthen this collaboration further by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
