TNB Genco visited the Centre of Hydrogen Energy, UTM for research collaboration and talent development on hydrogen technologies

JOHOR BAHRU, 2 Feb. Tenaga Nasional Berhad Generation (Genco), one of the leading power companies in Malaysia, recently visited the Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE) at the Institute of Future Energy, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The visit took place on February 2, 2023. It involved 12 delegates from TNB Genco, headed by Haji Ahmad Faraid bin Mohammed Yahaya, Head of Genco’s Project Management Office for Environmental, Social, and Governance (PMO ESG).

The visit aimed to exchange research ideas and explore potential collaborations in the field of hydrogen energy.

The delegation from TNB Genco was particularly interested in the work being carried out at CHE, which is focused on developing sustainable hydrogen production and utilization technologies.

During the meeting, the delegates from TNB Genco were given a tour of the research facilities at CHE and were introduced to some of the ongoing research projects.

They also had the opportunity to discuss their research interests and areas of expertise with the researchers at CHE.

One of the outcomes of the meeting was the request by TNB Genco for a structured training program on the hydrogen ecosystem for their staff.

The training would help to increase their knowledge and skills in the field of hydrogen energy and equip them with the necessary tools to contribute to developing sustainable hydrogen technologies.

Commenting on the visit, Haji Ahmad Faraid bin Mohammed Yahaya said, “We are impressed with the research being carried out at CHE, and we believe that collaborations between TNB Genco and CHE could lead to the development of new and innovative solutions in the field of hydrogen energy. We look forward to working together in the future.”

The Centre of Hydrogen Energy at UTM is one of the leading research centres in Malaysia focused on developing sustainable hydrogen production and utilization technologies.

The centre is actively involved in research projects on hydrogen storage, fuel cells, and hydrogen production from renewable sources.

The visit by TNB Genco is expected to further strengthen the collaboration between the center and the industry and contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions in Malaysia.
