Abstract

“UTM’s qualification as one of Malaysia’s five Research Universities is an important step toward becoming a key component in Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem and the country’s drive toward achieving developed nation status.  UTM and SRI International have worked together for more than two years to help UTM researchers and staffs improve their innovation capabilities and processes.  Steve Ciesinski, SRI’s Vice President of Strategic Business Development, responsible for SRI’s Innovation Programs, will provide a talk on how Universities around the world have become more focused on innovation, ultimately bringing more world-class research into the marketplace.  Since innovation drives job creation, economic growth, and societal good, it must be a focus of publicly and privately funded Universities.  By investing in both basic research and applied research, better understanding important market needs and working with world-class industry and venture partners, Universities can better encourage the creation of innovation ecosystems, which must also include Government, Industry, and Small/Medium Enterprises.”
