11 Dec, Skudai, Johor. Leveraging on the impact of the Malaysian Unite for Road Safety (MUFORS) initiative, Gerakan Motosikal Pencetus Amalan Keselamatan (GEMPAK) MUFORS programme was held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) at Perdana College, Skudai Campus. This is part of the initiative by PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) as part of its road safety awareness campaign, which attracted local and international students across UTM.

The engagement was launched by Prof. Dr. Azlan Abdul Rahman, DVC (Development) of UTM. Apart from being exposed to various emergency and first aid techniques, participants were also given opportunities to learn safe motorcycle riding tips such as balancing, speed and braking techniques by road safety experts.
According to PLUS’ Region Manager Southern, Husni Md. Yusuf, GEMPAK MUFORS is an initiative by PLUS to recruit young motorcyclists as road safety ambassadors and at the same time, reduce the number of accidents involving motorcycles on our roads.

PLUS will continue to play its role to explore other road safety initiatives in the future in making the roads safer for all. Since its inception at the end of 2011, the programme has attracted more than 1,000 young motorcyclists between 16 to 25 years old.

The programme received overwhelming response by students. Hong Leong Yamaha Motor CSR Manager Romi Sabihin B. Mohd Jahaya was present to support and encourage students for free motorcycle services. Apart from that, first aid facilitations process and free helmets from Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) were provided. There were also exhibitions by UTM OSH Unit, UTM Security Office, JPJ and Police Booth, showing strong engagement and encouraging efforts of external stakeholders in getting UTM communities to be more aware of road safety measures.

Indeed, such a programme will increase the visibility of UTM in having more civic-minded generation Y who are more cautious of road safety when they are on the road.
