JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 28 – The BIMRG CPD Tech Tweak Talk, held on 28 November 2025 at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), brought together construction professionals, academics, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) practitioners for a focused half-day programme on regulatory compliance, digital transformation, and data-driven practice.
Organised by the BIM Research Group (BIMRG), the event featured three high-impact sessions delivered by experts from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), industry partners, and BIMRG’s industry-affiliated members.

The programme opened with a welcoming segment and overview of the objectives before proceeding to Session 1, presented by Ir. Dr. Mohd Fairuz Ab Rahman, Deputy Director of the Construction Safety Division, DOSH. His session, “Redefining Professional Duties under CDM Regulations 2024,” unpacked the intent and structure of Malaysia’s updated Construction Design and Management (CDM) framework.
Dr. Fairuz explained the expanded responsibilities of clients, Principal Construction Work Designers (PCWD), and Principal Construction Work Contractors (PCWC), emphasising early design-stage risk management, improved information coordination, and whole-life safety planning. His structured explanation offered participants a clearer understanding of compliance expectations under CDM 2024.

Session 2 was delivered by Dr. Nur Nilam Sari Md Yusoff, BIMRG Industry Affiliated Member, who presented “Process Protocol for the Implementation of CDM Regulations 2024.” She highlighted key challenges affecting CDM adoption, including fragmented procurement and poor design coordination. Using the process protocol diagrams from her slides, she explained how CDM responsibilities span the entire project lifecycle and clarified the roles of clients, designers, and contractors through the duty-holder matrix.
Dr. Nur Nilam also emphasised the importance of Design Risk Assessment (DRA) and the preparation of essential CDM documents such as PCI, CPP, and the Safety & Health File. She concluded by showing how BIM can support CDM compliance, particularly in hazard identification, documentation, and coordinated design reviews.

Session 3 featured a dual presentation by Muhammad Akmal Zolkepli and Muhammad Syarul Syameer Shahar from S&A Data Services. With strong expertise in BIM coordination, data standardisation, 4D simulation, and digital project delivery, their talk, “BIM-Powered Data Analytics for Construction Technologists,” showcased real-world examples of Autodesk AEC workflows, clash detection, federated models, and Power BI analytics dashboards. Their demonstration highlighted the rising importance of data literacy and visual analytics in decision-making, safety management, and project performance tracking.

After each session, the participants engaged in Q&A session, reflecting strong interest in CDM adoption, BIM integration, and Malaysia’s broader digital transformation agenda. The BIM CPD Tech Tweak Talk successfully strengthened regulatory understanding, digital competency, and collaborative learning across academia and industry, supporting Malaysia’s transition toward safer, smarter, and more integrated construction practices.
