Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Delegation Strengthens Ties with National University of Singapore (NUS) on Energy Research

SINGAPORE, Aug 28 – A Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) delegation from the Energy Management Group (EMG), Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT), visited the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 28 August 2025 for a research-networking programme.

Led by Dr. Norazana Ibrahim, the delegation comprised Ir. Dr. Dinie Muhaimin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafiziana Md Kasmani, Ir. Dr. Izni Mariah Ibrahim, Dr. Aizuddin, and Dr. Asiah Nusaibah. The visit aimed to enhance partnerships, share expertise, and chart pathways for future collaborations in the field of energy.

The UTM team was warmly received by Prof. T.E. Tay, a distinguished scholar in computational modelling and composites. The official programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Lee Poh Seng, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who highlighted potential collaborations through the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) at NUS. This was followed by presentations from Vincent Tan Beng Chye, who introduced scholarship opportunities at NUS, and Prof. Zhou Guangya, who outlined undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, including the 3+1+1 programme.

Representing UTM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafiziana Md Kasmani shared the group’s current research directions in energy management and materials. A knowledge-sharing session ensued, where UTM and NUS researchers exchanged insights on potential collaboration in computational modelling, energy transition, advanced materials, and hydrogen research. Both sides expressed strong interest in pursuing joint projects, student mobility programmes, and collaborative publications with clear benefits for academia and industry.

Over lunch, the delegation and hosts deepened connections in a more relaxed setting. The visit concluded with a tour of the Energy Conversion Laboratory, led by Prof. Ernest Chua and his postdoctoral team, showcasing state-of-the-art facilities that exemplify how NUS bridges research with real-world sustainability and energy solutions.

The programme concluded with closing remarks and acknowledgements, during which both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing joint research and education.

This visit represents a significant step in UTM’s ongoing effort to broaden its international research network. Collaboration with NUS, consistently ranked among the world’s top universities in the QS World University Rankings, opens valuable avenues to elevate research impact, strengthen academic programmes, and advance regional and global sustainability objectives.
