UTM Hosts Research Exhibition with NIT-Kagoshima College

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) conducted a Research and Networking Exhibition on May 13, 2024, from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Electrophysiology Lab, Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), UTM. The event, held in conjunction with The Telecommunications Advancement Foundation grant, was organized by the Biomedical Instrumentation and Electronics (BMIE) group from the FKE and the Applied Industrial Analytics Research Group (ALIAS) from the Faculty of Computing. The exhibition showcased innovative projects from UTM and the National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Kagoshima College, highlighting advancements in the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The morning session featured an exhibition of projects demonstrating the potential of IoT, ML, and AI in various sectors. UTM’s lecturers and students presented innovative projects that captured the attention of attendees:

  1. Security Beyond Keys: Face Recognition Technology in Smart Lockers led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sophan Wahyudi Nawawi
  2. i-Cage for Smart Monitoring and Mobility Control in Fish Farming led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Asniza Murad
  3. Smart Cafeteria Table Occupancy Management System led by Ts. Dr. Nurul Ashikin Abdul Kadir
  4. Farmwatch led by Ir. Dr. Fauzan Khairi Che Harun
  5. Smart School Hybrid Attendance and Locker System led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Al-Hadi Ab Rahman
  6. Luna: An AIOT Assistant for Home Automation led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozeha A. Rashid
  7. Face Recognition Attendance System led by Dr. Yusliza Yusoff

Representatives from NIT-Kagoshima College also presented their projects, fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange:

  1. Saving Machine Project presented by Mr. Ahmad Nabil Zahran
  2. Rescue Drone Project presented by Mr. Ryo Ohnishi

Afternoon Session: Key Presentations

The afternoon session included insightful presentations on two key topics.

  1. Deep Residual Learning for Modulation, 5G, LTE, and WLAN, delivered by representatives from NIT-Kagoshima College, Prof. Teruji Ide and Mr. Ryo Ohnishi. This presentation covered the principles and applications of deep residual learning in communications technology.
  2. Mobile Electrocardiography, presented by UTM representative, Ts. Dr. Nurul Ashikin Abdul Kadir. This session discussed advancements in mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) technology, highlighting its potential for improving healthcare diagnostics and monitoring.

The Networking Grant Research and Networking Exhibition at UTM was a resounding success, showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering collaboration between UTM and NIT-Kagoshima College. The event underscored UTM’s commitment to innovation and its role as a leader in IoT, ML, and AI technologies. It also highlighted the crucial support from The Telecommunications Advancement Foundation grant and the joint efforts of the Faculty of Computing and FKE.
