JOHOR BAHRU, Dec. 15 – The Faculty of Science Industrial & Innovation Showcase (SIIFS) 2023 was a significant event that fostered collaboration and engagement. The event took place on December 13–14, 2023, at Dataran C17, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, and saw the active participation of 223 individuals, including lecturers, students, and industry representatives from Malaysia. This was the second collaborative effort between the Faculty of Science, CCIN, and PERKESO, specifically focusing on attracting industry professionals and external guests for an open interview session.
The dynamic program involved interactions with 12 industry representatives who interviewed 61 participants. This demonstrated a strong engagement between academia and industry. The event featured the active involvement of 17 companies as exhibitors, with three of them engaging in discussions with representatives from the Faculty of Science. Additionally, companies affiliated with UTM showcased their innovations, highlighting the diversity and richness of industry collaboration.
The Career Fair program generated much interest, with 16 companies participating and 162 attendees, including students and lecturers. A particularly notable event was the open interview session for the SIIFS2023 Career Fair program, which drew in 61 participants from both within and outside UTM.
The exhibition showcased various booths from industry and UTM centers of excellence. It provided a platform for faculty representatives and industry stakeholders to participate in sharing sessions, interviews, and discussions. Keynote sessions were also delivered by speakers from both UTM and the industry, covering topics on research and collaboration opportunities, which added depth and insight to the event.
The closing ceremony was graced by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir and included speeches from PERKESO Director Mr. Tong Sing Chuang and Dr. Sabrinah Adam, Deputy Director of CCIN. It was a fitting end to this collaborative endeavor. Dr. Juan Matmin, the Program Director of SIIFS2023, expressed optimism about the continued advancement of the industry engagement agenda, building on the success of SIIFS2023. The program not only met but exceeded expectations, with 42 companies participating and a total attendance of 223. It showcased the impactful strides in fostering collaboration and innovation within the academic and industrial spheres.
