The CSR Green Internationalization Series 2 program took place at Laman Edible Bangsa Johor Bahagia, Jentayu Community Flat, Bandar Baru Kangkar Pulai, Johor Bahru. The program ran from 8 am to 12 noon and was attended by 40 international students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), along with 3 UMT staff, 7 international UTM staff, and members of the Jentayu community.
This collaborative initiative between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the Jentayu Community involved a community garden that has been active for a year. The goal was to expose the community to easy, simple, and beneficial plant cultivation methods, fostering more conducive and healthy gardening activities for common well-being within the available space.
The program began with Associate Professor Dr. Norahim bin Ibrahim, Associate Director of Global Education & Experience at UTM International, explaining the correct planting methods. Subsequently, students cleared the garden area by uprooting old tree roots and removing withered leaves to make space for new trees. They then applied organic fertilizer, root fertilizer, and bokashi powder. Additionally, they used a soil meter to ensure accurate soil pH, moisture level, and temperature. The planting process involved growing eggplants and replanting vegetables such as chili and mustard trees. Finally, students sprayed organic insecticides on the plants to maintain good microorganisms and watered them. The program concluded with a photo session with the Jentayu community and a souvenir presentation.
This initiative allowed UMT international students and the Jentayu community to learn and practice correct planting methods, enabling them to share this knowledge with the public and promote UTM’s international agenda within the local community.
