From 11th April to 15th April 2023, Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputer (PERSAKA) from the Faculty of Computing successfully conducted CompFair’23 for five consecutive days at N28A, Faculty of Computing. The purpose of the program is to motivate and give exposure to potential job scopes for students.

The face-to-face outdoor program has been impossible to be conducted in the last two years due to the Covid-19 situation. This time, we can experience the hands-on and engaging aspects of physical and outdoor activities. PERSAKA is delighted at the chance to plan the CompFair’23 and put everything it had into ensuring its goals were met.

There were seminars and guest speakers during the event, in addition to a webinar and a workshop. Students participated in a Resume Workshop on the first day of the program, which focused on creating a professional resume showcasing their skills. The speaker for the Resume Workshop is Dr Suhaila Binti Mohamad Yusuf.

On the second day, the opening ceremony is held at Dewan Seminar Kejora, N28A, and this program is officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr Wan Mohd Nasir bin Wan Kadir, Dean of the Faculty of Computing.

After the program was officiated, a segment was conducted for companies who participated in the Career Fair organized by the CompFair’23 committee to brief about their companies. The companies who participated include Icore Technology Sdn. Bhd., Bintara Solutions Sdn. Bhd., Billion Prima Sdn. Bhd., Macross Consultancy and Public Mutual Berhad. The Career Fair was held for two days at Laman Interaksi, N28A.

At night, a Data Science Webinar with the theme “Demystifying Data Science” was given by Dr Mohamad Shukor Bin Talib.

CompFair’23 continued the next day with a Bioinformatics Webinar by Dr Nies Hui Wen, which enabled students to learn more about bioinformatics and its job scopes.

On the fourth day, students participated in a treasure hunt followed by a Cybersecurity Webinar by Ts. Dr Siti Hajar Binti Othman, to give insights to the students on how to protect themselves from cyberattacks.

There were also competitions being held throughout the fourth day. The competitions are Coding Detector, Fast Fingers and T-Shirt Design Competition.

On the last day, CompFair’23 organized an Artificial Intelligence Forum to improve work efficiency by reducing the time to accomplish a task compared to humans. The panels for the forum are Assoc Prof. Dr Siti Zaiton Mohd Hashim and Ts. Dr Johanna Binti Ahmad.

After the forum, the program continues with the closing ceremony officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr Dayang Norhayati Abang Jawawi, Deputy Dean Academic and Student Development Faculty of Computing.

The ceremony continued with the prize-giving ceremony for the winners of CompFair’23 competitions.

It is hoped that PERSAKA from the Faculty of Computing (FC) can continue to aid in providing the essential platform to make UTM students, especially students of FC, as integrated and universal individuals in considering the success of CompFair’23, which attracted more than 500 participants. The success of this program would not be possible without the main sponsor, Valley Printers.
