On Thursday 14 November 2019, a workshop on the security of renewable energy was held to discuss and debate on the current issues in commissioning the alternative fuels for Malaysia. The topic discussed included industry planning, development, biomass energy as future energy, solar PV energy, ocean thermal energy, roadmap and challenges towards energy transition and climate change, and energy efficiency in Malaysia. Stakeholders coming from top management of industries and universities.

Welcoming remarks was delivered by the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Mutalib. Important message conveyed to the audience was the emphasis on  the importance of having alternative energy for the depleting petroleum and the needs for Malaysia to not only use the latest technology but  to own the technology. Malaysia has a lot of  potentiasl to be explored in energy sector. Plenty of resources such as palm oil waste can be converted into wealth and high value added product. Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics (RFTI), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has played an important role in materializing the mission for commercializing the bio jet fuels from biomass waste led by Prof. Datuk Dr. Halimaton Hamdan and Ts. Dr. Rozzeta Dolah.

The event comprised seven topics presented by the guest speakers and two sessions of group discussion. Closing remarks was delivered by Prof. Ir. Dr. Suzana Yusop the Head of High Centre of Excellent – Centre for Biofuel and Biochemical Research (CBBR) UTP.
