Johor Bahru – The bioMedical & Instrumentation Electronic (bMIE) Research Group (RG) has successfully presented an Electroencephalogram (EEG) related prototype during the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Engineering-Industry Innovation Day (EIIDay2019). EIIDay2019 was an inaugural event conducted by the Faculty of Engineering,  UTM event since the kickstart of Synergy 4.0 on July 1st, 2018. The Closing and Keynote Speech was delivered by the Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), YB. Yeo Bee Yin at the event.

The two-day exhibition was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar (DSI), UTM Johor Bahru on 11th and 12th September 2019. bMIE is a Single Discipline RG of Innovative Engineering Research Alliance, UTM. There are 4 major research areas focused by bMIE RG; electronic and biomedical instrumentation, biosensor, biomedical signal and image processing, and, rehabilitation. The experts from bMIE RG are Dr. Mohd Azhar (Head of bMIE RG), AP. Ir. Dr. Rubita, AP. Dr. Norlaili, AP. Dr. Nasrul Humaimi, AP. Dr. Eileen Su, Dr. Mohd Afzan, Dr. Nor Aini, Mdm. Mitra, Dr. Ashikin, Mr. Johari, Mr. Camallil, Mr. Abdul Hamid, Mdm. Norhafizah, Mr. Ismail,  Dr. Puspa Inayat, Dr. Fauzan Khairi and Dr. Amir As’ari. They serve at SEE and SBEHS at the Faculty of Engineering, UTM.

The showcased prototype was a Smart-Home application which is controlled using EEG signals by blinking and focusing. The system, which is still at its initial study phase, is a wireless brainwave-controlled system that is designed to assist the disabled and elderly people. The system can be easily implemented and has a high potential to be used in  smart automation and wireless biomedical applications.

bMIE also invited their industry partner, Techcare Innovation, to present FIBOD which is a fitness balance board. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eileen currently has a collaboration project with the company for research study purpose. In addition, Mdm. Mitra who has a collaboration with Electronic Engineers from the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, Mr. Mohamad Shahir Mohamad Hasan and Mr. Ahmad Safwan Ahmad Kamil (from the left at the above picture), also happens to enliven bMIE booth at EIIDay2019 for further research and improvement of the current study. Furthermore, the event has attracted crowd attention to bMIE booth which has successfully showcased their amazing works to the field of engineering and technology in their devoted expertise.
