JOHOR BAHRU, 25 Oct. – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) QS Team led by Associate Professor Sr Dr Sarajul Fikri Mohamed from Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying has won the Innovation Award from the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) in conjunction with QS International Convention (QSIC 2018) held from 22 to 23 October 2018 at Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The award was presented by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Works, Tuan Haji Mohd Anuar bin Mohd Tahir.

The QS team is developing exciting next-generation digitalisation technologies to enhance the accuracy of quantification and cost management of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Works in green building projects.

Commenting on the BQSM Innovation Award, Associate Professor Sr Dr. Sarajul Fikri Mohamed said: “I am delighted and feel deeply honoured that our work has been recognised by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia and industry panel of judges.

“I am especially indebted to Ministry of Education Malaysia PRGS research funding and UTM for not only acknowledging and supporting my research but for giving me a unique opportunity to develop innovative approach to tackle some of the biggest contractual issues in construction projects that are faced by industry today.

A key focus of the project will be to improve the current practices in the quantification of M&E works in building.

The cost of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Engineering Works significantly increases, and the relative cost have a tremendous impact on the total cost of building projects.

The traditional practice makes it difficult for project team to measure and manage the cost of engineering services, and this leads to project risks.

QSIC 2018 is an annual event organised by BQSM in collaboration with JKR and CIDB aimed to bring together professionals, practitioners, researchers and scholars from local and abroad to share experiences in Quantity Surveying practices, addresses the latest development and current challenges in fast changing environment.
