UTM Develops Online System for Managing Intellectual Property, Innovation and Commercialisation

JOHOR BAHRU, 15 December 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has developed a system known as the Innovation and Commercialisation System or INNOCOMMS for the purpose of intellectual property, innovation and commercialization management.

This system was developed by the Industrial Commercialization Centre (ICC) in collaboration with the Centre for Information and Communication Technology (CICT) UTM.

ICC UTM Marketing Manager, Nur Hazirah Ruslan said the system was developed in two phases, covering the online application of intellectual property protection and intellectual property databases of the university. The second phase of the system is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

With this system, UTM intellectual property owners may  easily apply for intellectual property protection online, with notification of the application status done via the official UTM email.

The system will also be integrated with the RADIS system to access information related to research projects and UTMHR system for access to staff information automatically. This will facilitate the application process and thus minimize errors in the application of intellectual property protection.

According to Nur Hazirah, the launch of the online system is expected to strengthen the management of intellectual property, innovation and commercialization in general.

The first phase of the system will be ready for use starting from 1 January 2016 through the link of icc.utm.my/to/ innocomms /  and UTMHR respectively.

This system was launched by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail at the UTM staff monthly engagement session on 15 December 2015 at Dewan Sultan Iskandar (DSI), UTM Johor Bahru.

Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohd. Ismail Abd. Aziz.
