JOHOR BAHRU, 6 September 2015 – General Council members of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) comprising 12 members, paid a courtesy visit to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). They were welcomed by UTM Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof. Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar.
Several issues were discussed between the Vice-Chancellor and the RISM President, YBhg Dato’ Sr. Sri Kandan s/o Kanagainthiram together with the RISM delegation, including issues related to communication skills among graduates, possible joint programmes particularly in Quantity Surveying and the possibility of introducing a building surveying undergraduate program.
The Vice-Chancellor also shared with the RISM delegation on the strategic aspects of UTM’s Key Amal Indicators as well as information pertaining to student enrollment, industrial relations with companies, community engagement and industrial PhD.
Both parties agreed that there should be more joint activities between UTM and RISM which would benefit the professional development of students.
RISM is a professional body that comprises four (4) distinct but closely related Divisions i.e. Geomatic and Land Surveying Division, Quantity Surveying Division, Property Management, Valuation and Estate Agency Surveying Division and Building Surveying Division.
The President, Vice President and Deputy Presidents of the four Divisions are members of the General Council which is the governing body of the Institution.
