UTM signs MoU with Travel Agencies to Promote ‘Visit My UTM Campus’ Ecotourism Packages

JOHOR BAHRU, 25 August 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 3 local tourist agencies, namely, SN Vacation Sdn. Bhd, Prima Sierra Holidays Sdn. Bhd and Masrina Travel Sdn. Bhd.
This is a strategic collaboration to enable UTM and the three appointed travel agents to further promote the UTM Campus Ecotourism package ‘Visit My UTM Campus’.
The memorandum was signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Dr. Azlan Abdul Rahman on behalf of UTM while the three travel agencies were represented by their Managing Directors respectively.
Also at the ceremony was UTM Director of Works, Office of Asset and Development, Prof. Dr. Abd. Latif Saleh.
Prof. Azlan at a press conference after the signing of this MoU said the three agencies as well as the name of the ecotourism packages offered have been selected with the cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia Johor.
“The Travel agents selected have extensive experience handling package tours, particularly Prima Sierra which has twice won the Johor Tourism Awards, in 2009 and 2012 respectively.
“SN Vacation which was established in 2001 has received great support from MOTAC in marketing local tour packages abroad, while Masrina Travel Company which was established in 1978, has extensive tourist management experience,” he said.
UTM is the only public university with an Ecotourism Campus inititaive, first mooted in 2009 by its former Vice Chancellor, Dato ‘Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang.
The packages contained in the ‘Visit My UTM Campus’ are: Escapade to Nature (3D2N), Eco and Edu in UTM (2D1N) and UTM Adventure Tour (1D) offered by Prima Sierra Holidays.Home Away from Home (3D2N), Edutainment Tour (3D2N), UTM & Johor Gateway (2D1N), Ecotourism & Homestay Experience (2D1N) and Science Exploration & Ecotourism Tour (1D) offered by Masrina Travel offers, and Junior Campus Tour Day Trip (1 / 2D), Ecotourism Campus Adventure & Leisure (2D1N) and Campus Nature & Beauty (2D) offered by SN Vacation agency.
