JOHOR BAHRU, June 17, 2015 – The Faculty of Chemical Engineering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (SEDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together as partners in driving ahead the Malaysian Biomass and Bio Gas Technology.

The memorandum was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Datuk Dr. Wahid Omar who represented UTM, while SEDA was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Catherine Ridu. The event was held  at the Main Meeting Room, Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building, UTM Johor Bahru campus.

Prof. Wahid told a news conference after the signing ceremony, that UTM principal researchers, namely, Prof. Dr. Rozainee Mohd Taib and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haslenda Hashim will design and carry out basic training  and competence modules for local engineers in the fields of construction, operation and maintenance of biomass and biogas technology.

“The collaboration signed shows that both UTM and SEDA are committed in supporting the government’s desire to achieve the target of 7.8 per cent energy in the form of renewable energy by 2020,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohd Ismail Abd. Aziz and Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abd. Manan.
