JOHOR BAHRU, August 10 – Plan is underway for the establishment of 10 High Tech Computerized Teaching and Research Laboratories at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

UTM Faculty of Computing Laboratory Manager, Dr. Haza Nuzly Abdull Hamed said as many as 400 computers equipped with the latest specifications will be available soon.

“The laboratories will be equipped with computers packed with the fourth generation  i7 procesor, 16GB RAM, and 2 GB Graphics Card High Definition, 2 Terra Bite (TB) Hard Disk as well as a 24-inch LED monitor.”

“The laboratories will also be accompanied by high speed internet,” he said.

According to Dr. Haza Nuzly, this computer lab facility can be used by students and staff of UTM in learning various subjects like Graphic & Animation, Information System Development, Software Engineering, Computer Networks and Computer Security.

“At the same time, we also intend to open up the laboratories for rental to any interested parties.”

“The proposed charges for government agencies is RM350.00, while for the private sector the charges will be RM450.00.”

However, according to Dr. Haza Nuzly, only a minimum amount of RM150.00 will be charged to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) using this facility to raise funds for charitable purposes.

“This should be viewed positively as our laboratory is operated using payable electricity services,” he further added.

All profits from the rental service will be channeled directly into the account of UTM as one of the university’s efforts to generate its own revenue.

“These labs will be operational at the end of September 2014 and will be located at Block N28 and N28A, Faculty of Computing UTM Johor Bahru campus,” he said.

Any parties interested in renting any of the labs can contact the Lab Manager at 07-5532430 or they may visit http: /// for more information.

The central purchase of this equipment has been made possible from a special allocation of the Ministry of Education (MOE) under the Tenth Malaysia Plan.
