MAPEK ’24: Inspiring First-Year Students to Get Involved at KTDI

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 20 – The Student Residential College Committee (JKM) organized the Majlis Pengenalan Kelab Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail 2024 (MAPEK‘24) at Dewan Sri Resak, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This event introduced first-year students of the 2024/2025 session to a vibrant array of clubs at Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail (KTDI), emphasizing the importance of active involvement in co-curricular activities.

MAPEK’24 aims to introduce new students to KTDI’s various clubs and associations, inspire active participation in co-curricular activities to build vital soft skills and enhance awareness of the many engagement opportunities offered through KTDI’s programs and events.

The Principal of KTDI, ChM. Dr. Mohd Akmali Mokhter, officiated the event, delivering an inspiring speech that highlighted the importance of co-curricular activities in developing essential soft skills and fostering a sense of community. The former JKM president, PK Nur Adib Fahim Norhamizan, was also invited to share motivational insights, reflecting on his journey and encouraging students to make the most of their university experience.

“I’m truly inspired by the words shared today,” said Aliyah Hassan, a first-year student. “It’s exciting to see so many opportunities for personal growth beyond academics.”

The event featured various engaging activities, including the formal introduction of the 2024/2025 JKM committee, an oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members, and a certificate presentation to the outgoing JKM team in recognition of their contributions during the 2023/2024 session.

The audience was captivated by cultural and artistic performances, which included traditional music from the Gamelan Club and contemporary pieces from the Aksara Resak Club. The Taekwondo Club and Pencak Silat UTM showcased impressive martial arts techniques, while the Reserve Officer Training Unit (PALAPES) Darat and Laut delivered riveting demonstrations of discipline and teamwork.

“Watching the performances gave me chills!” said participant Aiman Hakim. “I can’t wait to join the Pencak Silat club.”

Additionally, students visited booths hosted by each club, where they discovered various opportunities such as leadership training, cultural exchange, and skills development.

The organizers expressed optimism for MAPEK’24. Muhammad Daniel Imran Matharuzaman, the President of JKM KTDI, stated, “We hope this event encourages students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and actively participate in the programs offered by KTDI. These experiences are invaluable for personal growth and developing time management skills.”

Concluding the day with joy and enthusiasm, MAPEK’24 successfully set the tone for an engaging year ahead. First-year students left feeling inspired, with many eagerly signing up for clubs and anticipating their contributions to KTDI’s vibrant community.
