Dominance and determination: KTHO celebrates 19 medals at UTM Games

JOHOR BAHRU, 16 Nov – Kolej Tun Hussein Onn (KTHO) has once again made an impressive showing at the UTM Games 2024, securing a total of 19 medals: 3 gold, 4 silver, and 12 bronze. The event took place from November 7 to 16 at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) campus in Johor Bahru, bringing together the top athletes from across the university to compete in a display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship.

A total of 339 participants represented KTHO in the games, including 308 athletes, 31 managers for each sport, and individuals participating in Ultras and Parades. This strong representation underscores the collective dedication and enthusiasm of the KTHO community.

The highlight of the games was KTHO’s success in track and field, where their athletes truly excelled. They dominated the Men’s 400m and 1500m events and won the Men’s 4x100m relay, securing all three gold medals and showcasing their all-around capabilities.

In volleyball, KTHO’s men’s team showcased exceptional teamwork and resilience, earning a silver medal after a series of intense matches. Meanwhile, the women’s volleyball team contributed to the medal tally by competing fiercely to claim bronze.

Basketball and pétanque also contributed to KTHO’s success. The women’s basketball team showcased determination and skill, earning a silver medal after a series of closely contested games. Meanwhile, the men’s pétanque team demonstrated precision and strategy, securing a bronze medal and adding to the college’s growing collection.

Bronze medals played a significant role in KTHO’s achievements, with athletes contributing an additional 11 bronzes across various disciplines. Notable accomplishments came from men’s basketball, women’s handball, men’s shot put, the 1500m and 800m races for men, the 3000m for women, the 4x100m relay for women, the 5000m for men, Rugby 7s, and Rugby Touch. These victories reflect KTHO’s depth of talent and versatility across multiple sports.

KTHO’s accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and hard work of its athletes, supported by disciplined training and unwavering encouragement from the college’s management, the Students Representative Council (JKM KTHO), and the Merbauan Council of Fellows (MAFAN). Their combined efforts have fostered a culture of resilience and achievement within the college.
