PASIR GUDANG, 22 SEP 2020 – Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UTMSPACE in a ceremony that was held at Johor Port in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
The MoU builds on the collaboration between the University and Port Industry leader, where UTMSPACE and Johor Port Berhad are to develop and offer professional qualifications related to the ports and logistics management system.
The MoU was signed by Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port Berhad and Prof. Dr. Azlan bin Ab Rahman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UTMSPACE. Also present were Assoc. Prof. Sr Dr. Sarajul Fikri Mohamed, General Manager of Centre for Professional Development and Industrial Project Development for UTMSPACE, Muhammad Razif Ahmad, General Manager of Johor Port Authority, senior management team from Johor Port Berhad and UTMSPACE.
Under the MoU, the three (3) programmes offered include (1) Professional Certificate in Port Management, (2) Professional Certificate in Logistics Management, and (3) Professional Master in Port Management. The programmes are structured to provide port employees with the knowledge needed on port development and networking in career advancement. Moreover, the structure of the programme includes industrial attachments that help the participants to meet the evolving requirements of the industry.
Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port Berhad, argued that “I work as a port operator at Johor Port Berhad with 40 years experience in the ports and logistics industry. It is high time for the university-industry collaboration as this will complete the professional capabilities of port employees. It also represents a paradigm shift in fulfilling the need for professional and skilled personnel in Malaysia’s ports and logistics industry that are essential toward the national development.”
The modules in the programmes were developed by JP Skills Centre (JPSC), a training provider arm of Johor Port Berhad. JPSC provides training to major local ports and regional ports such as PELINDO III, PELINDO IV, Vietnam Ports as well as to UNCTAD.
