MELAKA, 16 August 2016 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) through its biotechnology-based research centre, the Institute of Bioproducts Development (IBD) has organized an international conference titled “6th International Conference on Biotechnology for the Wellness Industry” or (ICBWI) which held at Equatorial Hotel, Melaka.
This conference has reached its 6th years since it was first organized in 2010 and this year it highlighted the theme “Wellness for Health and Productivity: Recent Trends and Opportunities”.
The program also highlights the capabilities of IBDUTM in research and development of high impact bioproducts in tandem with the aspirations of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) in promoting the commercialization of products resulting from the research carried out.
A total of 150 local and international participants took part in this conference such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Egypt, Argentina and Indonesia as well as from universities and agencies in the country.
In addition to the presentations, a research poster presentation session was also held featuring more than 60 posters from local and overseas researchers where they will be published in the International Journal of Biotechnology for the Wellness Industries published under Life science Global publication and scientific books under Springer publications.
To promote a culture of innovation and creativity among researchers, the organizers prepared three special awards namely ‘best abstract’, “Best Poster and ‘Young Researchers to innovate’.
The honourable Datuk Wira Hj Md Yunus Hussin represented the Chief Minister, Dato ‘Seri Ir. Hj. Idris Hj. Harun attended dinner sponsored by the Melaka Biotechnology Corporation and the opening ceremony of ICBWI 2016.
In the programme of the opening ceremony of the 6th ICBWI was the launch of Virgin Coconut Oil products under the new brand Nütrell VCO. This coconut oil is a source of fatty acids with a high content of lauric acid.
Bioproducts Development Institute plays a role in conducting research and engineering and process catered to produce virgin coconut oil to maintain the flavour and high nutrient content. Nütrell VCO is suitable for the whole family and can be used in everyday cooking.
