Kuala Lumpur, 15 March 2016 -Yayasan Azman Hashim has contributed RM30 Million to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for the purpose of offering scholarships as well as enhancing and expanding academia.
The RM30 Million ringgit will be used to establish ‘Tabung Biasiswa Endowmen Azman Hashim’ , which aims to offer scholarships to excellent undergraduate students with CGPAs of 3.80 and above and Bottom 40 students with household income of below RM3,500.00 with CGPAs of 3.00 and above. This fund also will help in the enhancement and development of academia in UTM.
For a start, 5 students from different backgrounds of studies have been selected to receive a scholarship respectively from ‘Tabung Biasiswa Endowmen Azman Hashim”.
As part of the UTM Endowment Fund initiative, the ‘Menara Endowmen’ has been introduced. Under this new initiative, individuals, organisations and companies are invited to give monetary contributions to UTM and in return, their names, images or brands will be captured at UTM to become part of the contributors’ marketing and branding strategy.
In line with this concept, the UTM International Business School will be rebranded as the Azman Hashim International Business School, Dewan Utama at UTM KL will be known as Dewan Utama Azman Hashim, while the UTM Stadium at UTM Johor Bahru will be named Stadium Azman Hashim in honour of the trustee of Yayasan Azman Hashim, Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
UTM will also grant ten (10) people nominated by Yayasan Azman Hashim to undergo the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at the Azman Hashim International Business School UTMKL on a complimentary basis, the offer being valid for a fifteen (15) year period from the commencement of this Endowment.
UTM has initiated the endowment concept or the act of giving for scholarly deeds with the introduction of the UTM Endowment Fund. This is one of the main mechanisms for elevating UTM as a beacon of knowledge to enhance the academic and intellectual ecosystem of the university.
UTM welcomes the contribution from all stakeholders including university staff, students, Alumni and individuals, corporate organisations and others from within as well as outside the country. It is through such contributions that UTM is able to sustain the pursuit of scholarly activities and to further encourage knowledge sharing and facilitate knowledge interaction within and between communities.
Since the establishment of the UTM Endowment Fund in 2010, more than 50 Million Ringgit has been collected, and the contributions have been increasing steadily.
