JOHOR BAHRU, 17 November 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) won three awards at the Oil and Gas Festival (OGFEST) 2015, namely, at the Paper Presentation (Post Graduate) category, Petrobrain Competition and Oil Rig Competition.
Programme Director, Sivanyanam Ravinttiran said that the Petrobrain competition which was sponsored by Schlumberger WTA Sdn. Bhd. was the event that enticed a lot of people on the first day.
“This competition tested each of the 17 contesting teams on their technical and general knowledge related to the oil and gas field”.
“Other competitions held at the OGFEST 2015 included Mud Innovations, Oil Rig Designing Competition, Paper Presentation and Petroearth Competition,” said Sivanyanam.
In addition to winning the categories mentioned, UTM students also made an impact in other categories,  among which include  Paper Presentation (Undergraduate) where UTM winning the third place, Poster Presentation Competition (second place), Petroearth Competition (second place) and Mud Innovation Competition (third place).

OGFEST is a grand biennial event organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers UTM Student Chapter (SPE-UTM-SC) with the purpose of providing exposure to students to the rigours of this vast industry and its current demands.
“This two day events also gathered oil and gas companies from various background in one place, thus, giving students an invaluable opportunity to obtain information and clarify any doubts with the respective companies.

Exhibition booths were open early in the morning and welcomed any interested visitor. Through this, students were able to ask more information about the company  they are interested in, in addition to establishing a rapport with these companies.
OGFEST’15  was officially closed by Dean Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FCEE), Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abd. Manan.
