Faculty of Electrical Engineering Student Won 3rd Place at MYCentre4IR AI Impact Challenge 2024

BAYAN LEPAS, Aug 29 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is pleased to announce that a final-year student, Hoh Chew Wen, from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), has secured 3rd place in the esteemed Malaysia Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (MYCentre4IR) AI Impact Challenge 2024. Competing in the AI Impact Challenge (18+ Years) Category, Chew Wen impressed the judges with her innovative final year project titled “ARAI: Development of a Cost-effective AR+AI-Powered Home Workout Fitness System with Real-time Feedback.” This achievement earned her a cash prize of RM700.

The competition, organized by MyDIGITAL Corporation in partnership with Intel Malaysia, aims to promote AI innovation and social responsibility among young people. It celebrates forward-thinking projects that can positively impact society. Chew Wen’s project centered on developing an accessible and affordable home fitness system that integrates augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), providing users with real-time feedback to enhance their workouts.

The award was presented by YB Gobind Singh Deo, the Minister of Digital Malaysia, and AK Chong, the Managing Director of Intel Malaysia, during a ceremony that celebrated youth innovation. Chew Wen expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award motivates me to continue pushing the boundaries of what AI and AR can achieve in the Malaysian technology industry, especially as I embark on my career after graduation. I am thankful for the support of my FYP supervisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Adilla Mohd Subha, who has guided me in pursuing this vision.”
