KUALA LUMPUR, 8 January 2015 – Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak launched Menara Tun Razak which is located at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur.
The opening ceremony which took place in UTM Kuala Lumpur was also attended by the Education Minister II of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, UTM Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Datuk Dr Wahid Omar, Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Salleh Mohd Nor and Secretary General II of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Zaini Ujang.
Menara Tun Razak was among the building completed under the 9th Malaysia Plan or RMK-9. The 17-storey building houses administrative units and the Razak School, equipped with modern teaching facilities in line with current development.
This project is the biggest project ever managed by UTM, having been granted permission by the Public Works Department (PWD) to manage the project, which is a testament of UTM’s capability.
Under the RMK-9, UTM Kuala Lumpur acquired a budget totaling RM156 million for the Kuala Lumpur campus redevelopment project. This has enabled UTM to build iconic buildings equipped with modern facilities, to reflect its academic standing and contribution to the country.
The name, ‘Menara Tun Razak’ was chosen to commemorate the contributions of the late Tun Haji Abdul Razak Dato’ Hussain to the development of education in Malaysia. Tun Haji Abdul Razak was also the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, and is also known as the Father of Development of Malaysia.
