JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 6 – The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly hosted the 2nd International Educational Training Course for delegates from Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies (SWUT), China, from 5 to 10 August 2026, further strengthening the strategic academic partnership between the two institutions.
The six-day international programme, directed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zakiah Mohamad Ashari represents the second major collaborative initiative between UTM and SWUT following the successful inaugural training programme held two years ago. The continued partnership reflects the commitment of both universities to advancing educational excellence, promoting global knowledge exchange and fostering sustainable international collaboration in higher education.

The programme was officially inaugurated by UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Ts. Dr. Intan Zaurah Mat Darus, who welcomed the SWUT delegation and reaffirmed UTM’s dedication to strengthening global partnerships that enhance academic quality, research innovation, and intercultural understanding. In her opening address, she highlighted that international collaborations such as this are essential for preparing educators and institutions to address the rapidly evolving demands of education in the digital era.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in an intensive series of lectures, workshops, collaborative discussions, and practical sessions designed to enhance professional competencies in teaching, research and educational leadership. The training provided an international platform for educators, researchers, and academic leaders from both institutions to exchange ideas, share best practices and explore innovative approaches to contemporary educational challenges.

The programme was carefully structured around five strategic pillars that reflect current global priorities in education.
The first pillar, 21st-Century Learning and Research, focused on equipping participants with advanced pedagogical strategies, innovative instructional approaches, high-impact research methodologies, and effective academic publishing practices. Participants explored emerging trends in educational research while strengthening their capacity to produce internationally recognised scholarly work.
The second pillar, Holistic Educational Innovations, emphasised learner-centred educational practices that nurture intellectual, emotional, social, and ethical development. Through interactive sessions, participants exchanged successful educational models and innovative practices aimed at cultivating well-rounded learners capable of thriving in increasingly complex societies.
Recognising the transformative influence of artificial intelligence, the third pillar is centred on Generative AI Integration in Education. Participants gained practical exposure to the application of generative AI technologies to enhance curriculum design, teaching delivery, assessment practices and personalised learning experiences. Discussions also highlighted the ethical considerations and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve educational quality while maintaining academic integrity.
The fourth pillar addressed Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Transformation, where experts examined innovative teaching models, industry-driven curriculum development, and competency-based education that prepare graduates for the future workforce. Participants explored strategies for aligning TVET programmes with global industry demands, technological advancements and sustainable economic development.
Completing the programme was the fifth pillar, Sustainable Institutional Collaboration, which focused on establishing long-term academic networks between UTM and SWUT. Discussions centred on future faculty mobility programmes, collaborative research initiatives, joint publications, curriculum development, student exchanges and expanded international partnerships that will continue to benefit both institutions.
Beyond academic sessions, the programme also fostered meaningful cultural exchange, enabling participants to gain a deeper appreciation of each other’s educational systems, professional practices, and cultural heritage. These interactions further strengthened mutual trust and laid the foundation for broader collaborative opportunities in the years ahead.
Building upon the success of their first collaboration, the 2nd International Educational Training Course signifies another important milestone in the growing partnership between UTM and SWUT. The programme demonstrates the shared vision of both universities to promote educational innovation, research excellence and international engagement while contributing to the development of globally competent educators and future-ready institutions.

As the collaboration continues to flourish, UTM and SWUT remain committed to expanding opportunities for joint research, academic exchange, professional development and knowledge transfer, reinforcing their position as internationally connected institutions dedicated to shaping the future of education through strategic global partnerships.
