KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 – A delegation from the Department of Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) participated in Glodon AEC Connect Day 2026, held at the KLGCC Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The delegation comprised 20 participants, including three lecturers, Dr. Ahmad Faiz Azizi Ahmad Fauzi, Dr. Farah Kamilah Zainuddin and Dr. Muhamad Shafiq Johari, as well as 17 third-year degree students.

The invitation from Glodon to the Quantity Surveying Computer Lab Coordinator, Sr Dr. Fara Diva Mustapa, reflected FABU UTM’s established engagement with Glodon through its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and existing subscription to Glodon Cubicost. The participation also provided an opportunity for UTM lecturers and students to witness the official Malaysian launch of QuantifAI, Glodon’s next-generation AI-powered quantity takeoff solution.

Held under the theme “Double Intelligence with AI × 5D BIM”, the event brought together nearly 1,000 representatives from government agencies, industry associations, developers, consultants, contractors, academia and the wider construction community. The event provided a valuable platform to explore how artificial intelligence (AI), Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other digital technologies are transforming Malaysia’s Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector.

A key highlight was the official introduction of QuantifAI, a 2-in-1 AI-powered quantity takeoff solution integrating structural and architectural workflows. Developed around the principles of “Simpler, Speedier and Sharper”, QuantifAI aims to simplify quantity takeoff processes, reduce repetitive and data-intensive tasks, and support construction professionals in improving productivity, accuracy and efficiency.

For the UTM delegation, the launch provided valuable exposure to emerging technologies that are increasingly shaping the future of construction and quantity surveying. UTM’s existing Glodon Cubicost subscription has been incorporated into relevant teaching and learning activities, providing lecturers and students with practical exposure to digital quantity takeoff and cost estimation. The introduction of QuantifAI further broadened this exposure by demonstrating the potential of AI-powered quantity takeoff to complement existing digital workflows.

The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Reimagining Quantity Takeoff: From Traditional BIM to AI-Powered 5D.” The discussion explored the integration of AI, BIM and project data to improve construction workflows, productivity and decision-making. It also highlighted the changing role of construction professionals as digital technologies increasingly take over routine and data-intensive processes.

The participation of UTM’s lecturers and students in AEC Connect Day 2026 demonstrates the university’s continued commitment to industry engagement, digital transformation and future-ready education. Exposure to the latest developments in construction technology enables students to better understand the evolving requirements of the profession, while providing academic staff with insights that can inform teaching, curriculum development and industry collaboration.

Through meaningful engagement with industry partners and exposure to emerging digital solutions, UTM continues to strengthen the development of future-ready graduates and construction professionals who are equipped with the knowledge, digital competencies and adaptability required to contribute to the transformation of Malaysia’s AEC sector.
