JOHOR BAHRU, 10 June – The Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has appointed former Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, as an Adjunct Professor, effective May 1, 2026.

This appointment brings one of Malaysia’s most accomplished corporate leaders to the university, bringing more than four decades of industry expertise and significant contributions to airline management, business transformation and strategic leadership.

Datuk Captain Izham began his career as a commercial pilot with Malaysia Airlines in 1979 before rising through the ranks to hold key leadership positions within the national carrier and its parent organisation. In 2017, he was appointed Group Managing Director of MAG, becoming the company’s longest-serving chief executive. During his tenure, he led the organisation through a major transformation, overseeing financial restructuring, operational improvements and strategic initiatives that strengthened the group’s long-term sustainability and returned it to profitability. He retired on Jan 31, 2026, after more than 40 years of dedicated service to the aviation industry.
