📝 Summary

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia launched a STEM-oriented CSR program at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, providing students with exposure to IoT, AI, and Robotics technologies. The program aims to enhance student learning, develop soft skills, and foster a long-term partnership between the two universities. The initiative also includes an environmental component, where students participate in a beach clean-up project.

JOHOR BAHRU, May 4 – The Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, through its STEM-RBTK Club and Kolej Tunku Cancelor (KTC), has launched a meaningful STEM-oriented Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This program represents a core component of UTM’s continuous mission to disseminate knowledge in cutting-edge technologies, specifically the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Robotics, to higher education institutions across Malaysia.

For this edition, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, has been identified as the ideal destination for this CSR program. Demonstrating strong support for this outreach, UMT has generously agreed to provide complimentary workshop facilities to ensure the seamless execution of the event. The primary beneficiaries of this program are UMT Foundation (Asasi) students, offering them invaluable early exposure to highly relevant technologies within the engineering and computer science domains.

This initiative establishes a symbiotic relationship that immensely benefits both institutions. While UMT students gain essential technical insights, selected UTM students step into crucial roles as guest trainers and facilitators.

By leading these intensive technical sessions and workshops, UTM students can significantly sharpen their leadership capabilities, technical communication skills, and pedagogical methods, which are vital for their holistic personal and professional development.

The key objectives driving this initiative are threefold. The first is to significantly enhance student exposure to the fields of IoT, AI, and Robotics through interactive, hands-on learning experiences utilizing the innovative TinkerBot, TinkerIoT (the mobile application development platform) and TinkerCode (block and Arduino IDE programming) platforms.

The second objective is to cultivate essential soft skills, including leadership, clear technical communication, and effective pedagogy, among UTM and KTC student facilitators through real-world mentoring roles.

Lastly, the program seeks to foster and solidify a robust, long-term strategic partnership between UTM, KTC, and UMT in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through impactful and sustainable community service.

In addition to their academic and technical pursuits, the students also participate in the Blue Ocean Clean Shore project as part of their comprehensive CSR commitment to nature.

During this environmental component, participants volunteer to clean the local beach, reinforcing the vital importance of ecological preservation alongside rapid technological development.

Ultimately, this collective effort aims to inspire the next generation of tech innovators while bridging critical knowledge gaps between Malaysian higher learning institutions.

By combining advanced high-tech learning with environmental stewardship, this collaborative endeavor sets a strong, lasting precedent for holistic student development, active community engagement, and successful inter-university partnerships across the region.
