JOHOR BAHRU, Apr 11 – The Yemeni Students Academic Group (YSAG) under International Student Society (ISS)-Yemen successfully organized the Bridging Talk program to support new students in adapting to university life at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Aligned with YSAG’s mission to enhance students’ academic, social, and professional development, the program aimed to bridge the gap between entry-level preparation and the realities of university expectations. While formal education provides disciplinary knowledge, Bridging Talk focuses on the essential skills and insights that are often gained through real experience.

The event began with participant registration, where attendees were warmly welcomed and presented with souvenir keychains as tokens of appreciation. This was followed by an opening speech from the YSAG President and program director, who introduced the objectives of the program and highlighted the role of ISS-Yemen in supporting the Yemeni student community at UTM.

The highlight of the event was the interactive sharing session hosted by Ibrahim Abduh, featuring invited speakers AbdulRahman Al-Asbahi and Omer Ali. Drawing on their personal experiences during the bridging semester, the speakers offered practical advice, addressed common challenges, and provided valuable strategies for academic success. Their engaging discussion and openness in answering questions helped guide new students and better prepare them for their academic journey at UTM.

Following the talk, participants took a short break to perform Maghrib prayer. The program then resumed with an interactive Kahoot session, where questions based on the earlier discussion reinforced key takeaways in a lively and engaging manner, encouraging active participation from all attendees.

An ice-breaking session followed, creating a dynamic environment for networking and connection. Organizers and speakers joined participants at their tables, initiating conversations that allowed new students to ask questions, seek clarification, and build meaningful relationships with their seniors. This session played a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and belonging among attendees.

The event concluded with a dinner session, providing further opportunities for informal interaction and discussion. With the participation of more than 40 students, the Bridging Talk was a successful initiative that not only equipped new students with essential insights but also strengthened the spirit of unity and support within the Yemeni student community at UTM.
