UTM and SUST Forge Strategic Partnership to Foster Academic Excellence and Innovation

JOHOR BAHRU, 20 Sept – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has taken a significant step towards promoting global academic and research collaborations by implementing a smart partnership strategy with prestigious institutions worldwide. As part of this strategy, UTM’s Faculty of Computing has recently formalized a collaboration with Suzhou University of Science and Technology (SUST) through the signing of a Letter of Collaboration (LoC). The signing ceremony took place on September 20, 2023, at UTM’s Johor Bahru campus.

Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi bin Ismail represented UTM, and Prof. Dr. Jiang Pengming, the Chairman of University Affairs, represented SUST. Several notable people attended the event, including Prof. Dr. Chen Weidong, the Head of the School of Art, and Prof. Dr. Wu Hongjie, the Associate Dean of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering at SUST. Delegations from both universities were also present at the event.

During a recent academic meeting, Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail highlighted the benefits that could be gained from sharing academic knowledge and research initiatives. In contrast, Prof. Dr. Jiang Pengming emphasized the need to adapt to technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence, which has had a significant impact on both industrial and academic sectors. He also recognized the considerable potential that could arise from this collaboration.

The partnership between UTM and SUST is focused on three main pillars: talent development, research and innovation, and the enhancement of teaching and learning. Through this partnership, they aim to collaborate on academic and research projects, student exchanges, talent development programs, and the organization of joint seminars, workshops, and conferences. The goal of this collaboration is to improve the global reputation of both universities and enhance their national and international standings. SUST is located in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, and offers various disciplines, including science, engineering, management, arts, and the humanities.
