Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is delighted to announce that the “BORED TUNNELERS” have been selected to participate in the highly esteemed NOT-A-BORING Competition 2024. This annual global event challenges young engineering minds to design and manufacture micro-tunnel boring machines capable of drilling tunnels up to 30 meters long.
The BORED TUNNELERS team comprises students from various prestigious universities in Malaysia and Bangladesh, including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), BRAC University, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). They have shown exceptional dedication and innovation in the field of engineering, earning their place in this renowned competition.
The NOT-A-BORING Competition, organized by Elon Musk’s Boring Company, is a global event that brings universities together to showcase their expertise in designing and manufacturing micro-tunnel boring machines. The competition is an excellent opportunity for students to explore the limits of engineering and contribute to the advancement of tunneling technology.
UTM is proud to have some of its outstanding current students and alumni, Shaekh Mohammad Shithil and Sibly Noman, as key members of the BORED TUNNELERS team. Shaekh Mohammad Shithil, a UTM alumnus, is leading the team with his extensive knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering. Sibly Noman, a current UTM student and team board member, is contributing his skills and passion to the project. Also, Al Mominul Haque Badhan, Nurshad Alam, Tayeb Sami, Arafath Rahman, and Talha Faiyaz are the team members from UTM. The material extraction and tunnel lining teams are led by Fahin Uddin Enan from BRAC University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Imran Khan from BUET’s Department of Civil Engineering, respectively. The team’s most junior member, Talha Jubayer from Notre Dame College, brings additional expertise to the group.
Micro-tunnel boring machines are intricate systems, and their front-end component, the cutter head, plays a crucial role in their successful operation. Navigation and propulsion systems, material extraction capabilities, and precise tunnel lining are all essential aspects of tunnel boring, and the BORED TUNNELERS are tackling these challenges with enthusiasm.
As the BORED TUNNELERS prepare for the upcoming NOT-A-BORING Competition 2024, UTM stands behind them and fully supports them. We believe their commitment to engineering excellence perfectly aligns with UTM’s innovation and academic excellence values.
We are confident that the BORED TUNNELERS will represent UTM and Bangladesh well on the global stage and showcase the immense engineering talent in our community. We wish them the best of luck and eagerly anticipate their success.
