On 16th October 2021, ACS Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) International Student Chapter committee was invited as participants at ACS Sister Chapter Interaction Event organized by ACS National University of Singapore (NUS) Student Chapter. This event involved three universities which were ACS National University of Singapore (NUS) Student Chapter, ACS UTM International Student Chapter and ACS Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Student Chapter. This event was conducted virtually through online meeting platform (Zoom Meetings) for 1 hour from 5.00 PM to 6.00 PM (GMT+8).

The theme of this event was “Career Prospects for Chemistry Graduates under the COVID-19 Pandemic.” This interactive session was attended by 9 ACS NUS committees, 14 ACS ITB committees and 27 ACS UTM committees from different faculties for example Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering as well as Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. This event aimed to provide an opportunity for students to interact with chemistry majors from other universities & countries. It also aimed for the participants to learn from each other about different viewpoints on career prospects.

The event started at 5.00 PM with the opening session by the President of ACS NUS Student Chapter, Chen Meng-Fu. The president provided a brief explanation to the participants regarding the flow and objective of this program. From 5.10 PM until 5.30 PM, the participants were divided into three breakout rooms for the first breakout session. For the second breakout session, it was conducted from 5.30 PM until 5.55 PM. Each breakout room was hosted by one representative from one of the universities. Room 1, Room 2 and Room 3 were hosted by Muhilan A/L Muniandy (UTM), Chen Meng-Fu (NUS) and Michelia Viki Zaneta (ITB) respectively. The questions were about the experience of online learning during the pandemic as well as post-COVID-19 career prospects for current undergraduates. Through the interactive session, participants were able to understand everyone’s stance from different viewpoints. At 5.55 PM, the ACS Sister Chapter Interaction Event ended with a short closing speech by Chen Meng-Fu and a photo session.

This interactive event was a major success as the participants did a great job to create an enjoyable discussion. We would like to thank ACS National University of Singapore (NUS) Student Chapter for inviting us to this event. We truly hope for more collaboration with other international student chapters to elevate the chemistry knowledge and interest in students.
