The Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Abdull Rahim Mohd Yusof finally completed his Roadshow Tour with the Faculty’s 4 departments which commenced from 26 February until 12 March 2019. The Dean was accompanied by the Deputy Dean (Academic & Student Affairs), Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation, Development & Alumni) and was also joined by other Faculty Management Team members. This engagement was attended by a total of 135 academic staff from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics and Department of Biosciences.

The Department’s time out with the Dean main aim was  to share the University’s Key Amal Index (KAI) for 2019  and way forward.  Additionally, the sessions were also intended to disseminate information on the performance and achievements of Faculty’s Key Focus Areas (KFAs) and initiatives  established in 2018. There are 3 related KFA involved:

KFA1: Excellence in Learning and Teaching and Transformative Campus Experience

KFA2:  Research Excellence, Industry and Community Engagement

KFA6: Global Prominence & Standard Operating Procedures

During the Roadshow, the Dean also shared with the academic staff on information pertaining to the facts and figures, succession planning, faculty’s niche area, research collaborations, scientific and professional partnerships, community projects, MyRA2 achievements, strategic planning and flagships for Faculty of Science. For 2019, 4 flagships have been identified:

  1. International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS)
  2. Science Unified Network (SUNSHINE): Mentoring System
  3. Science Learning Space
  4. UTM-Industry Symbiosis: Bridging The Gap (UVIS)

Thus, in ensuring the successful implementation of 2019 initiatives, all staff should strive for the best to support the new entity of Faculty Science under UTM Synergy 4.0. This  includes giving more opportunities for synergy and collaborations between academicians or departments from different academic disciplines.
