The Faculty of Science will continue to help new students navigate the process of online learning and ensure a successful start to their university education experience.
UTM experts from Faculty of Science UTM were elected as the committee members for Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (Southern Branch) – IKM(S). The recognition also demonstrated UTM’s continuous commitment towards strengthening Chemistry professional and excellence, especially in the southern region.
Under the American Chemical Society (ACS) Global Project SEED Program, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was chosen as one of the partner universities to host school students. This program aims to nurture junior research mentees by working alongside mentor scientists at the selected research institutions. This program has been managed by ACS Malaysia Chapter in collaboration with Yayasan PETRONAS. Two students from Malay College Kuala Kangsar and Muar High School underwent research attachment at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, UTM for a month, starting from 1st December till 31st December 2019.
Dr. Mohd Bakri Bakar from the Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was selected as the recipient of Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) Citation Award for the year 2019. This award is in recognition of his contribution, passion, dedication, and excellence towards making a positive impact on the advancement of chemical sciences, especially in Malaysia. This award also signified his strong background in programming chemical sciences strategic initiatives, developing engagement activities with various stakeholders, and leading national and international level programs.
Dr. Mohd Bakri Bakar from the Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was selected as the recipient of Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) Citation Award for the year 2019. He has been serving as a committee member of IKM Southern Branch since 2012. Dr. Bakri is also the founding member of American Chemical Society (ACS) Malaysia Chapter. He is also a founding committee for the ACS Asia Pacific International Chapter Conference.
During the Petrosains Science Festival PlaySmart Johor Bahru 2019, which was held on the 19th and 20th of October 2019, 3 academic staff and 1 PhD student from the Faculty of Science, UTM, gave scientific talks and demonstration during the ‘Meet the Expert Program’. The ‘Meet the Expert Program’ is a collaborative effort between Petrosains and Young Scientists Network – Academy Sciences of Malaysia, with the purpose of celebrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).
The series of FREE workshops had been organized by FREE task force of Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation, Development & Alumni), Faculty of Science UTM (FS) from 10 th Sept to 1 ft Oct 2019. The approach of FREE workshop is based on the requirement of four departments of FS. Knowledge transfer, including the heutagogy approach, and the hands-on training. he aim of FREE 4.0 is giving awareness to the lecturers on EDU 4.0 environment and platform, proposes the EDU 4.0 software and apps to support their active teaching and learning (T&L) skills.
