UTM campus chosen as premier hub for sustainability in operations and R&D

JOHOR BAHRU, 16 July 2017 –  Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Sustainable Living Laboratory campus was sucessfully chosen as the premier hub for sustainability in operations and Research and Development (R&D).
The campus was also recognized as an operational hub for better education, culture and engagement between university, public and industry.
The 10th Global Congress and Conferment Ceremony (GCCC) participants capturing a light moment with Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan.

Vice Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Ir. Datuk Dr. Wahid Omar said that most of the tangible and intangible pillars of sustainability such as economic, environmental and socially adopted were aligned with UTM sustainability policy and domestic approach.

“The purpose of the UTM implementation of the Living Laboratory (LL) sustainable campus was to achieve sustainability goals to encourage society into leading a sustainable lifestyle.
Datuk Dr. Wahid Omar accompanied by Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak greeting a delegate.

“This sustainable campus initiative is to promote synergy with the sustainability of human life,” said Prof. Wahid at the closing ceremony of the 10th Global Congress and Conferment Ceremony (GCCC) held at the Senate Hall, Johor Bahru campus. Also attending was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Internationalization), Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan.

UTM Sustainable campus has developed six living labs consisting of many aspects on operation and engagement with several partners in and out of the campus. Its role is to promote, initiate and educate the community to start/work in these labs by volunteer projects and engagement.
The 10th CGCC is a follow up to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit in New York which was held on 25 September 2015. The summit adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This programme was created to serve the 17 SDGs which were aligned to three overall objectives namely ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all.
