Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS), a registered organization under the Malaysian Ministry of Education, will be deploying 20 student volunteers from various public higher learning institutions to Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. The student volunteers will be accompanied by YSS staff and several Alumni Student Volunteers.
In preparation for the mission, all student volunteers will be required to attend a YSS pre-departure training session on 10th September, 2010, to be held at ‘Akademi Kepimpinan Pengajian Tinggi’ (AKEPT) located in Enstek, Negeri Sembilan.
The mission is scheduled to take place from 10th September to 29th September 2014. The Opening and Closing Ceremony will be held in Luang Prabang, with the former scheduled to take place on 14th September 2014, and the latter on 27th September 2014.
On 12th September 2014, there will be an MoU signing ceremony between YSS and the Lao Youth Union (LYU) in Vientiane, Laos. Half of the Malaysia student volunteers are expected to be in Vientiane at the MoU signing ceremony, before making their way to Luang Prabang.
At the end of the mission, a post-mission and debriefing session will be held at AKEPT on 29th September 2014.
YSS chairman Datuk Zuraidah Atan said that the mission is one avenue to inculcate the culture of volunteerism among Malaysian youths. Volunteerism results in active citizen engagement which fosters a more cohesive society. Through such activities, Malaysian youths gain a more global outlook, enhance their career and employment options and have a greater sense of belonging and well-being.
We wish all student volunteers all the best. UTM is represented by Muhammad Aliff bin Darmawis, a Human Resource student, from the Faculty of Management.
