JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 9 – The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently hosted a groundbreaking innovation competition themed “Innovation in Education: Pioneering New Horizons.” This event aligns with UTM’s mission to promote innovative solutions that enhance the quality of education.
Chaired by Associate Professor Dr Corrienna Abdul Talib, the competition provided an engaging platform for FEST students to showcase their creative and innovative products. These projects were developed as part of the courses MHPU1013/SHPU5013 Innovation in Learning & Teaching and SHPL4403 Invention. A total of 70 groups, consisting of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, participated, presenting an inspiring array of products and ideas.
The event was officially opened by Professor Dr. Noraffandy Yahaya, the Dean of FEST, who emphasized the importance of such competitions in nurturing future innovators. In his closing speech, Professor Dr. Noraffandy praised the participants for their dedication and highlighted the event’s role in fostering creativity and collaboration among students.
The program began with a keynote address by Associate Professor Dr. Aede Hatib Musta’amal Jamal, the Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation, and Development at FEST. In his speech, he emphasized the significance of innovation in education and inspired students to expand the boundaries of creativity and technological advancement.
Throughout the event, participants presented their projects to a panel of esteemed judges, peers and other attendees. The innovative products on display ranged from educational tools and software to inventive teaching methods and learning aids. Each project was evaluated based on originality, practicality, and potential impact on education.
Chairman of FEST Innovation Day 1.0, Associate Professor Dr. Corrienna Abdul Talib, commended the students for their exceptional work. ‘’The diversity and creativity showcased here today reflect the potential of FEST’s students to drive real change in the educational landscape,’’ she remarked.
Muhammad Danial Ikram Rosdi, the program director, stated, ‘’Innovation Day provides students with a platform to showcase their creativity and an opportunity to refine their entrepreneurial skills. It is a vital step toward cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset from an early stage’’.
Awards were presented in various categories at the event, including the Top 3 Award in the IEP Category, the Top 3 Award in the ITV Category, the Best Presenter Award, the Creative Exhibition Award, the Best Infographic Award, the Promising Innovation Award, and the IEP Judges’ Choice Award.
The success of the event was due to the hard work of the FEST Innovation Day Committee, which consisted of lecturers and student volunteers, including both undergraduate and postgraduate students from various study programs. Their dedication ensured a smooth and inspiring program that celebrated innovation and excellence.
The competition concluded with the participants feeling accomplished and inspired. The event highlighted the students’ innovative capabilities and emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in advancing education.
