JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 15 – The Faculty of Computing has announced that its Master of Cyber Security programme, offered through Open Distance Learning (ODL), has achieved Full Accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) this year. As the first Master of Cyber Security programme in Malaysia offered in the ODL mode since March 2023, it is uniquely designed to support working professionals seeking to upskill in the rapidly growing field of cyber security.

The programme currently has 106 students from both local and international backgrounds and caters to individuals with diverse professional experiences, many of whom are transitioning from non-cyber security roles. The international student body includes participants from India, Somalia, Libya, Singapore, and Egypt, highlighting the global appeal of Malaysia’s only ODL-based cyber security master’s degree.

The faculty’s Information Assurance and Security Research Group (IASRG) has established strategic partnerships with major industry players to ensure that students gain practical, real-world cyber security experience. Collaborations with CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC), the Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP), and Axiata provide students with opportunities to work on real-world projects, addressing critical security challenges and learning directly from industry experts.

The programme’s first cohort of graduates is set to be celebrated at the 68th Convocation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the university and its students. As the demand for skilled cyber security professionals continues to grow locally and globally, this fully accredited programme is well-positioned to address the pressing need for qualified experts to secure digital infrastructures in an increasingly complex landscape.
