UTM Representatives from the Faculty of Computing Visit 7 Universities in Indonesia to Sign LoI for Academic Collaboration

MALANG, Sept 4 — The Faculty of Computing at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was represented by Ts. Dr. Nur Haliza Abdul Wahab during a significant visit to seven prominent universities across Indonesia. The visit, which occurred from August 30th to September 4th, 2024, aimed to foster academic and research collaboration and resulted in the signing of several Letters of Intent (LoIs) with the respective universities.

Under the leadership of Ts. Dr. Nur Haliza Abdul Wahab, who represented Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, the UTM delegation successfully conducted meetings and signing ceremonies with each institution. These collaborations will establish the groundwork for joint academic activities, research initiatives, and student and staff development programs.

The UTM delegation recently visited several universities and was warmly welcomed by their respective deans. On August 30th, the delegation visited Universitas Warmadewa (UNWAR), where Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nengah Sinarta, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, hosted the UTM representatives. The meeting was highly productive, resulting in the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) to formalize their partnership. Later the same day, the delegation also visited Institut Bisnis dan Teknologi Indonesia (INSTIKI) Bali and met with I Komang Kurniawan, Dean of the Faculty of Design. The discussions at this meeting laid the foundation for further negotiations on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with talks expected to continue in September.

On September 2nd, UTM delegations arrived at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), where they met with Prof. Ir. Ilyas Masudin, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. During the meeting, they formalized an academic partnership by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI). Earlier in the day, the delegation visited Politeknik Negeri Malang (Polinema) and was received by Prof. Ir. Ratih Indri Hapsari, Vice Director IV of Polinema. This meeting also concluded with the signing of an LoI, marking the beginning of future joint efforts.

On September 3rd, the delegations visited Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Maliki), where they were hosted by Prof. Dr. Sri Harini, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology. This visit marked a significant milestone, as both institutions are preparing to collaborate in various academic fields.

The UTM delegation’s visit concluded at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Malang, where they were warmly received by Prof. Ir. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, on September 4th. The meeting ended with both institutions committing to future collaboration. Later that same day, the delegation proceeded to Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA), where they met with Dr. Ena Marlina, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. During the meeting, both parties signed an LoI, marking the start of joint academic and research projects between the two institutions.

The signing of the Letter of Intent (LoI) with these universities establishes a strong foundation for deeper collaboration across various key areas. This includes joint research, academic exchanges, student and staff development, and the commercialization of joint projects. These partnerships are expected to promote mutual growth and enhance educational and research opportunities for students and staff at all participating institutions.

Professor Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir expressed his enthusiasm for the partnerships, stating, “This collaboration opens up new avenues for innovation, academic exchange, and research opportunities for UTM and our partner institutions in Indonesia.
