Global Insights at TICSSH2024: Digital Humanities Explored

JOHOR BAHRU –The International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2024 (document_number_1), organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in Indonesia, was successfully held at KSL Resort Johor Bahru on 4 and 5 September 2024.

The conference was themed “Innovations in Digital Humanities: Shaping the Future of Social Sciences” and aimed to provide a platform for academics, authorities, and field practitioners to share ideas and collaborate in facing current challenges in the field of social sciences and humanities. The conference also aimed to contribute to the expansion of knowledge and research, as well as to promote international networking between FSSH UTM and other universities.

The program was chaired by Dr. Zulkifli Hamisan @ Khair, with Dr. Irfan Wahyudi as co-chairman, and officiated by UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim. A total of 97 presenters from various countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Nigeria, participated in the parallel presentation session.

Keynote speeches that garnered attention included presentations by Prof. Dr. Siti Aisyah Panatik, who spoke on “Digital Humanities: Challenges and Way Forward”; Prof. Dr. Sutinah, Dra., MS, who discussed the issue of “Gig Economy: Future Solution or Future Problem? A Sociological Perspective,” and Prof. Dr. Sunday Paul Bako, who presented on “A Catalyst for AI-Driven Education in Nigeria’s Journey to Society 5.0.”

Several interesting forums were held, covering topics such as Empowerment Research in Social Sciences towards Digital Society, presented by Prof. Dr. Zuraidah Mohd Don and Prof. Dr. Azlina Mohd Kosnin from FSSH UTM. Another topic was “How Can Work-life Balance be Improved in Malaysia,” presented by Dr. Zulfikar Ahmad, Director of the Center for Psychological and Counseling Services UTM, and Mr. Hisham Wahab, CEO of PakarHR Sdn. Bhd.

The conference also recognized the best presenters, presenting 12 best presenter awards and 3 Best of the Best awards to outstanding participants. With this success, TICSSH2024 is expected to continue as a platform supporting the exchange of ideas and global collaboration in the social sciences and humanities in the future.
