On 17 March 2021, PostGraduate Student Society Faculty of Science (PGSSFS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) had successfully conducted the Virtual Scientific Poster & Pitch Competition from 14 until 21 March 2021, in accordance with Research Week FS 2021.

The competition which was opened for all postgraduate students of Faculty of Science, had required participants to prepare their research poster and present the idea in a maximum of five minutes.

The first stage of the competition was the screening of all participants’ pre-recorded videos by the PGSSFS committees. The best 10 pre-recorded videos were selected and subjected to the second stage, which was an online Q&A session.

The session led to the selection of the best three winners by four panels, who were Assoc. Prof. Dr. See Hong Heng (Department of Chemistry), Dr. Muhammad Safwan Abd Aziz (Department of Physics), Dr. Ahmad Qushairi Mohamad (Department of Mathematical Science), and Dr. Abdul Fatah A. Samad (Department of Bioscience).

The competition was a good exposure and initiative to boost the postgraduate students’ confidence as well as to improve their communication skills in preparation for viva and conference presentation.

In short, the winners of the competition were Muhammad Hariz Asraf Hassan (PMB183003) from the Department of Biosciences for the first place, followed by Muhammad Izz Rosli (MSC193011) from the Department of Physics for second place and Muhammad Redza Mohd Radzi (PMB193021) from the Department of Biosciences for the third place.
