Researchers from the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), UTM which led by Sr Dr. Nurul Hazrina Idris, are among the 10 recipients awarded with the prestigious and highly competitive 2020 Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) Grant for Capacity Building Development Programme (CAPaBLE).

The APN is an intergovernmental network of 22 countries working towards the Asia-Pacific region and has funded more than 50 projects since 1996.

The approved project of “the Sustained Capacity Building Among Early-Career Researchers Towards Climate Resilience by Effective Ocean Monitoring Through the Satellite Remote Sensing” aimed at improving the capacity of scientists, policymakers, and practitioners to analyse issues of global change and to explore ways to solve challenges towards achieving sustainability.

The award has offered support funding up to USD 25,000 to conduct the capacity building development programme particularly for the early-career scientists from the APN developing nations.

“As the application of remote sensing techniques has increased in recent years and has been successfully used in a wide range of climate change fields including effective ocean, this project will gather the information and valuable source of data for individuals that interested in the on-going evaluation and decision-making process towards ocean climate resilience.

On top of that, the objectives of this project are mainly to encourage research collaboration that offers solutions and abilities to conduct an effective ocean monitoring as well as to reinforce the human network among researchers”, said Dr. Nurul Hazrina.

Through this project, three main capacity-building development programmes will be executed in 2021 including the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Ocean Remote Sensing towards Climate Resilience (22 February – 8 March 2021), 15th Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference, and Capacity Building Pre-Conference Tutorial.

Congratulations to Dr. Nurul Hazrina Idris and her team on receiving the APN fund grant and it is so inspired to see the great things coming.
