6th Bi-Weekly Seminar Series Organised by Applied Algebra and Analysis Research Group

On 18 January 2021, Applied Algebra & Analysis Group (AAAG), Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science and Frontier Materials Research Alliance, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has successfully conducted 6th Bi-Weekly Seminar Series. Recent advancement of Cayley Graphs was the title delivered during the seminar by Dr. Hazzirah Izzati Mat Hashim, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the sharing was conducted through an online platform so as to keep the global research engagement despite the challenges. The seminar was attended by lecturers, researchers and students who were interested in pure mathematics especially group theory, graph theory and their applications. This seminar has attracted more than 60 participants from more than eight countries among which were Malaysia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Jordan, and Iraq.

As as tradition, the Head of AAAG, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Muhainiah Mohd Ali, started the seminar with the opening speech, followed by the main agenda that was the sharing by Dr Hazzirah Izzati Mat Hassim.

The speaker shared on the evolutions of Cayley graphs. One of the graphs was a composite order Cayley graph and some of the graph parameters that include diameter, girth, clique number, independence number and chromatic number. The speaker also shared on the prime order Cayley graph which was introduced by Behnaz Tolue in University Politehnica of Bucharest Scientific Bulletin. The latest innovative Cayley graph formed, is a new type of graph named pi-Cayley graph. Many examples were elucidated by the speaker to show the advancement between each graph. At the end of this seminar, the participants were given chances to ask questions or provide suggestions for the presentation and future research possibilities.

Hopefully, this seminar has availed all the participants with new experiences on generating of new ideas to form other types of Cayley graph. The next bi-weekly AAAG seminar will be on 1 February 2021. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the next seminar. Thank you.
