Promoting and strengthening international collaborations in the new normal with iADORE2020.

The International Symposium on Advanced Statistical Data Analysis and Operational Research (iADORE2020) was successfully held online on 7 and 8 December 2020 via Cisco Webex Event platform. This symposium was organized by members from three research groups at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, UTM namely Climate Change Research Group (CCRG), Statistical Modelling Research Group (STAM) & Mathematical Optimization Research Group (RGMO), in collaboration with Institute of Statistical Research & Training (ISRT) from Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from Universitas Andalas (UNAND), Indonesia. This event was also supported by Institut Statistik Malaysia (ISM) and UTM International Global Online Classroom (OGC) program.

iADORE2020 has created an outstanding platform in the new normal for statisticians, operational research analysts, and industry practitioners to get the latest insights on diverse applications and technologies in the field of statistics and operational research. The theme of the symposium was Enriching Transdisciplinary Research Collaborations Beyond Borders. It did not only encourage new international collaborations between researchers from UTM and Dhaka University but also, strengthened cooperation amidst the ongoing MoU between UTM and UNAND.

The program included six keynote sessions, two skills-showcase sessions, an ISM special session and a contributed session. The keynote sessions were delivered by experts comprised Prof. Dr. Fadhilah Yusof (UTM), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee (UTM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaitul Zainuddin Marlizawati (UTM), Dr. Ferra Yanuar (UNAND), and Prof. Dr. M. Shafiqur Rahman (DU) and Dr. Md Hassinur Rahaman Khan (DU). The skills-showcase session were designed to help advance participants programming skills on two software: SIMUL 8 (Dr. Nur Arina Bazilah Aziz (UTM)) and RShiny (Nabil Awan (ISRT, DU).)

It is heartening to report that the attendance for iADORE2020 were quite encouraging as it managed to attract more than 180 participants from local and across international borders, everyday of the symposium. Such turn out is an indication of an effective student and academic staff mobility during these trying times of covid-19 period. It is hoped that through iADORE2020, further international collaborations would ensue in the near future.
