MUMBAI, INDIA, 19 February 2019 – A UTM Professor from the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sevia Mehdaliza Idrus was awarded the 51 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders awards 2019.
The award was given to 51 people who have contributed to the value of sustainability in Smart City planning. It was also given in conjunction with the 8th edition of World Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which was held in Mumbai, India.
Speaking after the conferment of the awards, Prof. Sevia said that the ’51 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders’ was given based on one’s professional achievements and contribution towards the establishment of Smart Cities.
“The organizers also approached your peers who have with pride recommended your name and the same is vetted by the advisory board that acts as a conscious keeper towards the success of World CSR Day,” she said.
The Congress was attended by various industries, NGOs and government agencies. The themes related to a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) including sustainable smart cities.
“This programme was also attended by several few city mayors from the Philippines, Nepal and also from Subang Jaya, Malaysia.
“Also attending were smart city solution industrial players from various countries such as Electrolux, Siemens, Schreder and MetroRio. It is quite impossible for me to get selected but was told it was based on nomination and invitation by the panel/organizer who put their consideration on my small contributions to few local government authorities and smart city solution projects,” said Prof. Sevia.
The other 51 recipients were big names which consist of city councils top managements from Canada, European countries and South America which made her the only academician from UTM to receive the award.
“As said by the congress chair, the award is to recognize those who have contributed value to the profession or their organization and make a difference by doing more corporate social responsibilities (CSR) projects.
“Besides recognizing the effort of others, this award also recognizes the contribution of academicians like us towards the industries and smart city developments. It is a hope that more academicians will be awarded in future,” said Prof. Sevia.
