JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 4 – RISM Career Talk & Forum 2025 was jointly organized by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Johor Branch and the Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying (FABU), UTM Johor Bahru at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This annual program, co-hosted by FABU, UTM and RISM Johor Branch, specifically targeted first-year students from the surveying programs in Geomatics & Land Surveying (GLS), Quantity Surveying (QS), and Property Surveying (PS). The event aimed to provide young surveyors with insights into the industry, career opportunities, and the professional journey of licensed practitioners.

The event was officiated by Prof. Sr Dr. Kharun Nita Ali, Dean of FABU, UTM. In her welcoming speech, she commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of early industry exposure for young surveyors and encouraged students to take full advantage of such professional networking opportunities to broaden their perspectives, develop confidence, and prepare themselves to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry.

Meanwhile, during the opening remarks by Sr Eugene Then, Chairman of RISM Johor Branch, he expressed gratitude to the lecturers and students from the four universities for their participation. It had attracted more than 350 students from UTM, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) and Southern University College (SUC). He advised the students to fully utilise this platform to interact with experienced practitioners, gaining insights into the various opportunities within the field of surveying.

Today’s programme had featured with a series of presentations from three industry experts and professional practitioners – LSr Dr. Tan Liat Choon (GLS), Sr Dr. Theong May Chuan (QS) and Sr Lee Kun Thye (PS). The speakers shared their passion for their career paths, bridging the gap between theory and practice in surveying, real-life examples and experiences provided students with a tangible connection to what is taught in the classroom.

Following the presentations, an interactive forum session allowed attendees to engage with the speakers. The esteemed speakers provided valuable insights and practical tips, fostering an informative and lively discussion that served as a source of inspiration, guidance, and motivation for students aspiring to excel in the noble field of surveying.

Overall, this program was highly successful and well-received by all attendees. Credits also goes to the four students’ association, Quantity Surveying-Bina (QS-BINA), Real Estate Management and Valuation Association (PEHARTA), Land Surveying Students’ Association (PEMETA) and Geoinformatics Club (GEOINFO) for their exceptional cooperation and support in making the event possible.
