151st 50th Anniversary of University of Tsukuba

A group of representatives from MJIIT and the DVCRI office recently held significant Management and Board meetings on September 28th and 29th, 2023, at the University of Tsukuba’s campus. The attendees included Prof. Dr. Ali bin Selamat (Dean), AP Dr. Roshafima Rasit Ali (Postgraduate Manager), AP Dr. Shaza Eva Mohamad (Quality and Strategy Manager), Prof. Dr. Rosli bin Ilias (Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Roshanida binti A. Rahman (Head of Resource Sustainability), and other team members. The main focus of the meetings was the Campus-in-Campus (CiC) Initiatives and its future plans with partner universities such as the University of Sao Paolo, the University of Bordeaux, National Taiwan University, the University of California (Irvine), Utrecht University, the University Grenoble Alpes, Ohio State University, Ruhr University Bochum, and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The Campus-in-Campus (CiC) Initiative aims to promote collaborative sharing of campuses among partner universities, harnessing collective research and educational resources and eliminating national and institutional barriers. At the meeting, the CiC Initiative was introduced, and its core mission was discussed. The scheme aims to facilitate seamless collaboration among partner universities by providing access to each other’s campuses and resources. The CiC scheme intends to create a global network of universities that work together towards academic excellence and internationalization. All partner universities’ representatives expressed their commitment to the CiC Initiative, emphasizing the significance of resource sharing and collaborative projects. The CiC scheme hcan potentially enhance each partner institution’srthe esearch capabilities and educational offerings  One of the key highlights of the CiC Initiative is promoting mobility among exchange students, faculty members, and administrative staff. The CiC scheme seeks to facilitate the movement of individuals across partner universities by breaking down national and institutional barriers and enriching cultural diversity and academic experiences.

On September 30th, 2023, the University of Tsukuba celebrated its 151st and 50th anniversaries by hosting a significant event, where attendees expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this important celebration. The University of Tsukuba had extended an invitation to MJIIT, UTM, highlighting the spirit of academic and research collaboration, and the attendees conveyed a heartfelt thank you for this partnership. Tun Mahathir, a well-respected and renowned leader, was present at the University of Tsukuba’s anniversary, captivating the audience with his charisma and sharp wit. Tun Mahathir is one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent politicians, known for his influential “Look East Policy” during his first term as Prime Minister (1981-2003). During his second term (2018-2020), Tun Mahathir requested the establishment of a Japanese university branch in Malaysia, emphasizing his commitment to strengthening educational ties between the two nations. The University of Tsukuba branch in Malaysia is tentatively scheduled to open its doors for the first time in 2024.

The gathering at the University of Tsukuba provided partner universities with an excellent opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the Campus-in-Campus (CiC) Initiative. By embracing this initiative, partner universities are empowering their students, faculty members, and administrative staff with enriched opportunities for growth and exchange of knowledge, thereby creating a more interconnected and collaborative academic world. We genuinely appreciate the University of Tsukuba for their gracious hospitality and look forward to the continued success and expansion of the CiC Initiative.
